The 980 PER generation can achieve twice the data transfer rate compared to NVMe SSDs with PCIe 3.0 interface. It is also backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 – for versatile uses.
Stirring speed
Designed for speed, the Samsung Elpis controller is designed for PCIe 4.0. SSDs. This means that the 980 PER read speed can reach up to 7,000 MB/s and can thus be twice as fast as a PCIe 3.0 SSD or 12.7 times faster than a SATA SSD. Maximum performance is 980 PER on one PCIe 4.0 interface, and performance may vary in other application environments.

With Samsung's current algorithm for heat regulation, the 980 per temperature can be controlled independantly and thus work with lasting and reliable performance. To minimize performance fluctuations in the long run, Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard technology keeps the 980 PRO operating temperature at a suitable level.
